Nevada Personal Injury Lawyers Representing Accident Victims in Oasis

Situated between the Pequop Mountains and Nevada’s Toano Range in the Goshute Valley is Oasis. Oasis, Nevada is located at the junction of State Route 233 and along the I-80, being a mere 40 miles west of the Nevada-Utah state border.

This high desert community experiences hot, arid summers and fairly dry winters with some snowfall.

Contrary to the area’s name, there is not a single aquatic “oasis” to be found within this area’s 0.89 square miles of land.

Oasis may be small, estimated to have only 30 or so residents as of 2010, but two key state offices operate out of the community. The Nevada Department of Forestry is located in the city, as well as Pequop’s Maintenance Station, which is maintained by the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Dog Bites in Oasis, Nevada

There may only be 30 or so residents in Oasis Nevada, but there are just as many dogs in the community. While most residents keep their pets restrained and well under control, situations may arise when a dog may bite or harm another resident or visitor to Oasis.

A Look at the Numbers

According to the American Humane Association:

  • Nearly 5 million dog bites occur every single year in the USA
  • Close to 1/5 (800,000) of these bites require some form of medical care
  • Children are 3x more likely to suffer form a serious dog bite than an adult
  • 70% of fatal dog bites involve children under the age of 10
  • 50% of all fatal dog bites involve children under the age of 12

Dangerous Vs. Vicious Dogs

There’s a distinction in Nevada between the types of “violent” dogs that are permissible and those that aren’t. According to Nevada state law, dangerous dogs are allowed if they are defending or protecting their home and property.

As an example, it’s permissible for a dog within the home to attack someone who may be attempting to rob the home. A vicious dog, however, inflicts severe bodily home without any provocation. A dog could also easily be considered vicious if attacking an individual outside of its property (i.e. in a neighbor’s yard, in a common community area, etc.).

Dogs are known as man’s best friend and can be the best of defenders and pets, but unless properly contained, they can be a huge liability.

If you or someone you know has been involved in a dog attack or if you’re wondering where your rights with your pet lie.
